Synagogue Mannheim
Jewish Congregation Mannheim
Completed: 2002
In 2002 the Jewish congregation in Mannheim commissioned a 3D reconstruction of the main synagogue, which was destroyed in 1938. The virtual tour around and through the house of worship is the core of a film which also deals with the fate of the Jews during the Nazi era and of the rebirth of the Jewish congregation after 1945.
A Torah curtain as well as a few building plans and black and white photographs are only what remain of the main synagogue from 1855. The help of eye witnesses and their remembrances influenced the coloration of the computer reconstruction of the synagogue.
