Roots of Humanity
Rheinisches LandesMuseum, Bonn
Completed: 2006
In the exhibition "Roots of Humanity" shown in the Rheinische LandesMuseum in Bonn, the development and expansion of mankind was to be presented on the basis of a three dimensional landscape model. The model comprises the continents of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia and shows their topography as a three dimensional relief. The different development steps and the spatial expansion of human-like apes, human ancestors and human species are projected on the model in chronological order as a continuous animation. The animation begins 9.5 million years ago and makes it clear to the observer that the starting point of the expansion of the various hominids again and again was Africa and that it was orientated by topographical conditions such as mountains and oceans.
